4. Sawm
(Fasting during Ramadan)
Sawm is the act of fasting during the month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.- Duration: From dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib).
- Requirements: Abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs during daylight hours.
- Significance: Fasting teaches self-discipline, patience, and empathy for the less fortunate. It is a time for spiritual reflection, increased worship, and seeking forgiveness. Ramadan is also the month in which the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
